Having an always strong focus on Eco friendly whenever possible we wanted to show you what you must always have to have a powerful efficient clean. Best of all most of these products are probably already in your home.
Baking Soda
Having the actual soda particles means it can work also as a weak abrasive, it helps neutralizes odors and smells which makes it perfect for scrubbing out scum and built up grease, try it even for scuff marks and see the difference.
White Vinegar
Your grandma’s secret weapon and for good reason, get 100% pure white vinegar with no water added if possible. Again it helps with degrease and getting rid of light marks, such as finger prints left on windows. Not only is it streak free again it helps disinfect and neutralize smells. Light enough for mild stains but strong enough fro heavy grease and even floor cleaning.
Dish Soap
If you can go Eco even better however the dish soap you have in your kitchen will do fine, a bit of hot water to luke warm makes a great pH neutral cleaner. As you’ve seen it gets rid of grease from cooking like nothing and in this instance a little goes a long way. This is great for any surfaces that you don’t want to scratch, just make sure you use a gentle cloth and a bit of elbow grease to get the job done.
Rubbing Alcohol / Iso-Propyl
Used in hospitals as a disinfectant you can imagine it’s definitely some powerful stuff. Essentially when it comes in contact with harmful germs and bacteria it kills them completely. Because of the strength of rubbing alcohol especially if you have the 100% version ensure you are in a ventilated area as it lingers in the air due to drying on surfaces so quickly.
All-round cleaner
That one quick cleaning product in a spray bottle for the messes that occur the most. We decided to go for a simple home made version which is surprisingly effective and simple.
1 teaspoon – tablespoon of dish soap to 1 liter of water (luke warm)
Clean most surfaces to remove stains and build up, great for furniture e.g. leather couches. How ever this won’t work on materials which absorb stains and liquids such as clothing, all carpets. Also keep in mind it may leave streaks on glass so not recommended for windows.
Disinfectant
Use this every week if possible, there is no telling how quickly and the amount of bacteria build up is possible on the surface you touch everyday.
50% rubbing alcohol: 50% water
When using this cleaning product it’s important to keep in mind you are still using rubbing alcohol so keep it ventilated. Think surfaces that are rife with germs and bacteria, this is great after a all purpose cleaner has done it’s job such as kitchen bench tops, bathroom surfaces etc. Don’t forget the smaller objects you come in contact with everyday e.g. door knobs, window handles, keyboards, cell phones etc.
Bathroom Cleaner
Now were getting to the tough stains which calls for some powerful product. This time no water to dilute just the chemicals itself!
50% vinegar: 50% dish soap
Without water this is a little thick when rubbed across surfaces and would need a good wipe down after applied and cleaned. Water can be used after to clean off all remaining residue. Great for the entire bathroom such as the tub, tiles, & even the toilet bowl.
Keep in mind if you have any natural stones or granite they should have very specific cleaning instructions with the correlating product so please check with your bathroom supplier.
Glass Cleaner
A must have for all glass surfaces as there’s nothing worst than stains and streaks left of a window shadowing what ever scenery you have outside.
50% vinegar or rubbing alcohol: 50% water
Both vinegar and rubbing alcohol don’t leaves streak. As well as having the right cleaning product picking your material to clean glass surfaces is just as important. If you are using a plain cotton cloth you may find it losing it’s material on your surfaces and the more you clean the more it sticks to your windows. Make sure you are using micro-fiber cloths as these won’t leave any trace on your surfaces for a wonderful clean every time.
Keep these products in your arsenal and tackle stains as they happen to keep your home in it’s highest standard at all times. I like to keep a few spray bottles of the above and have it on hand anytime a mess is made, next week we’ll go over the tools needed to utilize a full clean.
